The Maremma Sheepdog is a breed of livestock guardian dog indigenous to central Italy bred for centuries to guard large flocks of sheep on the plains and in the mountains. They originally lived day and night with their flock.
Lambkin Lane Farm is home to Scottish Blackface Sheep. We recently acquired a beautiful young ram and we are anxiously awaiting his first offspring.
We are also participating in the Valais Blacknose Sheep breed up program . The Blacknose Sheep Association of North America was formed in 2017 to support the introduction of the breed to the United States. We chose Scottish Blackface sheep for use in the program as they were one of the breeds used originally to develop the Valais Blacknose.
Located in central Ohio we depend on our livestock guardian dogs to protect our livestock. Coyotes and stray dogs are a constant threat and our Maremmas and Anatolian Shepherds make sure that they stay away from our livestock.
We love the Maremmas. Over 23 years ago we had a brother/sister pair and have been fascinated by them ever since. Orso Polare (polar bear in Italian) is our up and coming guardian-
The Anatolians are amazing. To those that know and love this breed they are considered the “ultimate livestock guardian breed”. Versatile, independent and very intelligent they can be a challenge to owners, but when properly socialized they are incredible companions.
